Sodium is a necessary evil for our bodies to function properly. Did you know that the daily recommended amount of sodium to be consumed daily is between 1500 mg and 2300 mg, for men and women between the ages of 9 and 50? There is however, a huge difference between the sodium from your normal table salt and the sodium is Himalayan salt.
There is nothing “natural” about table salt. It is chemically engineered in a lab and have synthetic chemicals added to them. These chemicals include everything from manufactured forms of sodium solo-co-aluminate, iodide, sodium bicarbonate, fluoride, anti-caking agents, toxic amounts of potassium iodide and aluminium derivatives.
Does that sound natural to you? You don’t put dirty, watered down gasoline in your car…why would you put something harmful and tainted in your own body?
Himalayan salt is full of nutrients packed into a bit of salty flavor. In addition to sodium, it is also rich in iron, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, potassium and chloride. It also contains boron, fluoride, iodine, zinc, selenium and copper. Shockingly, this is great for the cardiovascular system as well as the nervous system. While there are many positives, moderation is always key.
Enough with the technical stuff. Himalayan Salt tastes AMAZING. Period.
At Home Recipe –
I typically do not eat a ton of carbs unless I’m on a cheat day. A great snack that I have discovered is making my own popcorn.
I use a popper like this one pictured to the left:
1 cap full of organic popcorn, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and Himalayan salt to taste. Be sure to closely monitor the popcorn as it is easy to burn in the microwave.
It is DELICIOUS and I definitely recommend. If you try this recipe, let me know what you think!
Next time you are at the grocery store and you realize that you need some salt, give the pink salt a try. I’m telling you – you will never go back to regular table salt again.
Have a wonderful week, everyone xo
