My gym workouts weren’t very intense this week, I ate tortilla chips at taco Tuesday, I put my keys in the fridge, I didn’t track every little bit of food I ate each day and no matter how many hours I slept, I’m still tired. I don’t know about you, but I put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything right the first time and to have it together all the time. The older I get, the more I realize that this is an unrealistic expectation to have of myself.
WHY DO WE DO THIS TO OURSELVES?
I feel like the issue of stress and anxiety has become more prevalent, especially with the rise of social media. Let’s be real, no one wants to post the bad stuff – yet we look at each other’s social media page and have this false sense of perfection. We all want to have our shit together. We all want people to notice. And sometimes we want to be all things to all people.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH – Life isn’t perfect and neither are you.
You’re doing great. You got out of bed, put your clothes on right and you made it to work on time. You had your breakfast and your coffee. I hate to sound cliche, but some people don’t have that luxury. Life is a journey and like any road trip, there are going to be speed bumps and potholes. If you’re having a week where you feel down or off, take some time to yourself and do what makes YOU happy. You can’t be anything to anyone if you aren’t solid with yourself.
Love yourself. Instead of getting discouraged, take some time to recharge. Life happens and there is no sense in beating yourself for a bad week. Journal about what is bothering you, cook something new, take a long walk to get fresh air, or do what I do – pick up heavy things and put them down again. Whatever you do to feel normal again, take that time for yourself. Your friends and family will understand.
After you’ve recharged, pick yourself back up and go kick some butt. I guarantee that your workouts with be intense again, you’ll have the discipline you want when picking your meals, and you will handle your life like a boss. You can do this.
Have a great Friday and I hope this post gave you a boost 🙂
